5G Wireless Systems Research
Main Duties:
- Research related to future wireless networks offering superior end-to-end performance, enabling new use cases and businesses.
- Supporting our standardization efforts with leading research contributions. Especially 3GPP NR standardization.
- Designing enhancements for the 5G NR Radio Access Network (RAN), including radio resource management (RRM) features, as well as user- and control-plane protocol augmentations.
- This includes cross-layer optimization and innovations, spanning the radio access network and core network, and different radio access technologies.
- Research to enable new vertical use cases such Cyber Physical Systems (CPS) offering ultra-high reliability communications links for real-time control applications, as well as massive IoT.
- System-level performance assessment by means of simulations and experimental analysis.
- Will be working as part of the Bell Labs research team in Aalborg, Denmark, including cooperation with other Bell Labs and Nokia sites, as well as potential participation in research collaborations with Universities and other industry players.
Qualifications:
- The candidate holds a PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Communications Engineering, or related disciplines.
- Experience with performance analysis, including system simulations, and preferably also from field measurements and early proof-of-concept experiments. Including software programming.
- Knowledge of 3GPP RAN specifications such as LTE and 5G NR. Similarly, understanding of competing radio technologies for IoT such as Sigfox and LoRa is beneficial.
- Expert knowledge in wireless access networks, understanding of the related architecture, protocols, and end-to-end service delivery. Including performance optimization of such networks.
- Ability to conduct both independent research as well as being a good collaborator working as part of team.
- Documented research experience and impact; e.g. from solid track record of high-quality publications at internationally recognized conferences and Journals.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills. Fluent in English.
