General Requirements:
  • A highly qualified professional with demonstrated expertise within discipline supported by feedback from industry.
  • Effective presentation, negotiation and discussion skills to both technical and non-technical personnel to facilitate understanding and decision making.
  • Broad expertise and design knowledge within other disciplines to effectively generate designs that consider benefits and overall impact to organisation and customers.
  • Works with peers in cross-technology projects. Participates as a technology expert during the tender process to develop engineering effort estimates and scope of works

Knowledge / Skills / Experience

 

Technical:

  • Understanding and Industrial Experience (5 yrs minimum) with the following technologies:
      • Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM)
      • Data Technologies (Layer 2 and Layer 3)
      • Network Management System
      • General knowledge of Data Networking (data transport and routing protocols including Ethernet, MPLS, TCP/IP, OSPF, OSI CLNS, IS-IS)
      • General Computer Skills (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc)
  • A degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering and/or Computer Science.
  • Well developed Interpersonal skills.
  • Well developed presentation and customer facing skills.
  • Demonstrable written communication skills including succinct report writing.
  • Well developed organisational skills and the ability to work with minimum supervision.

 

Business Awareness:

  • Awareness of all operations and structures within NOKIA.
  • Demonstrates clear understanding of how the company works.
  • Understands the impact of decisions on project outcomes, strategies, operations and budget.

 

Communications:

  • Able to work effectively with others and to communicate to audiences both verbally and through written materials.
  • Work with customers and internal stakeholders under pressure and critical fault scenarios
  • Can co-ordinate large meetings /conferences and represent NOKIA in formal presentations.

 

Initiative & Decision Making:

  • Possesses skill of making the right decisions and using initiative to anticipate problems.
  • Makes technical or business decisions based on an understanding of risks.

 

Leadership:

  • Able to provide leadership, direction coaching and counselling to other engineers within the team.
  • Ability to manage others and guide the work of a team and/or technology area.
  • Ability to demonstrate strong people and perception management skills.

 

Team Work:

  • Able to work effectively and efficiently in a team environment.
  • Willing to share information, knowledge and experience with others.
  • Respects other members within the team.

 

Organisational:

  • Support to develop plans for medium to long term objectives of NOKIA NZ.
  • Identifies future opportunities and potential problems and accommodates these into plans.

 

Note:

  • Position is based in Wellington and may require some NZ and international travel.
  • Position requires availability for after-hours work to support projects and support work and international video and phone conferences.
