General Purpose of the Role/Job Position Summary Description:   


Network Functions Manager - Transport (NFM-T) Systems Engineer - Optical Management System


Our team is seeking experienced and talented Systems Engineers for the Nokia Network Functions Manager – Transport, Optical Management System application. NFM-T centralizes multiple network management and operations functions into one unified platform for the Nokia Optical portfolio. It allows network planning and operations staff to plan, deploy, and manage the network over the total life cycle.  An intuitive, well designed user interface makes complex networking features accessible and usable for end customers with a range of technical skills.


Systems Engineers on this project are expected to deeply understand the Optical Management domain, interact with

peers in Network Element, Product Management teams and customers to understand the operation of the devices that NFM-T manages, and the feature needs of our current and potential customers. The end goal is to create high quality management system requirements that bring leading edge features to our growing customer base.


Key Responsibilities / Functions:

- Interact with Network Element (NE) teams and represent the needs of the NFM-T product, influencing NE feature

implementation to ensure the highest customer value for our end-to-end product offering

- Work with Project Managers, Customer Teams and Customers to understand and translate the customer needs into a best in class management system.

- Translate feature concepts into high quality software requirements that will drive implementation in NFM-T

- Develop and optimize user flows for features, to ensure ease of use and a good user experience

- Develop high quality Northbound Interface Requirements and specifications

- Develop optical subject matter expertise and the ability to resolve operational, functional or inter-product issues that arise during product development



Required Minimum Qualifications: (Education, Technical Skills/Knowledge)    


  • A degree in a technical field such as Computer Science, IT, Systems Engineering (B.S. + experience is ok, M.S. preferred)

  • At least 3 years of experience in Network Management Systems

  • Optical Communication knowledge and experience

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Fluency in English




  • The candidate will be at the front end of the R&D process, directly reporting to an R&D Technical manager in the area of Optical Network Management

  • The candidate will have a peer relationship with Network Element Developers and Systems engineers

  • The candidate will have a peer relationship with Product Management teams

  • Interactions with all teams is expected daily


Competence Requirements:


  • Optical Network Element knowledge and experience

  • Systems Engineering experience including creation of specifications for development

  • Software Development experience is desirable

  • Optical Networking Standards and Modeling Knowledge and Experience (G.709, Netconf, YANG, TAPI 2, )

  • Agile/Scrum methodology
