
Precision Timing System Engineer
Our IP/Optical Networks business group (ION) includes IP, optical and network automation technologies and related services sold to our communication service provider customers as well as adjacent markets including webscale companies and enterprises. The ION IPR (IP Routing) division leads the industry with the best Network Processor technology (FP4 @ 2.4 Tb/s), QoS, parallel processing, Network Function Virtualization, and product quality. As a Precision Timing System Engineer in the IP Routing group, you will be responsible for: the development and qualification of new SyncE and PTP timing circuitry; the integration of new timing architectures into system software; the maintenance of hardware and systems integrity. This position requires self-starters who can manage complex projects from concept through release to production. You will work with a high-end highly motivated team of engineering professionals and have major responsibly to drive the process of new product introduction.
Responsibilities:
- Build up SyncE/PTP timing test beds to qualify and tune new timing circuits
- Work with Hardware and Software teams, Product Line Management, and Compliance team to understand internal requirements
- Foster constructive and collaborative relationships with external suppliers
- Plan and execute design verification testing
Qualifications
- Minimum B.Sc or B.Eng in Electrical or Computer Engineering
- 2+ years of related industry experience
- Fluent programming ability in Python, LabVIEW, MATLAB, Perl or similar
- Solid experience and knowledge in the integration and qualification of new hardware
- Working knowledge on various instruments like real time oscilloscopes and time counters
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
The ideal candidate has the following qualities:
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with network equipment from vendors like: Nokia, Juniper, Cisco, etc.
- Working knowledge of analog, digital, and software-based PLL design
- Familiar with various time and frequency transfer techniques such as PTP, SyncE, GNSS
- Conversant with PTP and ITU-T time and frequency standards
- Familiar with testing methods and specifications for SyncE,PTP, and GNSS including IEEE 1588v2, ITU-T G.826x, and G.827x specifications
- Hands on experience with Calnex Paragon series of test equipment and GNSS simulators
- Familiar with high-speed pluggable optical transceivers and Ethernet physical layer
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with competing priorities
