Nokia Investment Management Corporation

Nokia Investment Management Corporation (“NIMCO”), a subsidiary of Nokia, employs a 24-member staff with strong backgrounds in investments, financial management, and investment operations.  NIMCO is responsible for the oversight of the investments of the pension plans, the 401(k) plans and certain other benefit assets of Nokia totaling approximately $31b.  NIMCO maintains offices in Boston, Massachusetts and in Murray Hill, New Jersey.  The position can be based out of either location.

Public Markets & Absolute Return:

The individual in this position will be part of the team responsible for managing the public market and absolute return asset classes of the Lucent Master Pension Trust (defined benefit), 401k and other benefit trusts.  The existing public market asset classes include global equity, fixed income and absolute return (hedge fund) investments. 

This position, which reports to the Director, Investments and takes direction on a day to day basis from a Senior Manager, will lead all investment management functions that include:   legal, contractual, regulatory updates and documentation.  In addition, this position will be expected to lead, as project manager, any RFPs (Request for Proposals) for manager and/or service provider selection.  For the position to be successful, this candidate will have direct exposure to investment related areas that includes attending due diligence meetings with various investment managers.  Further, a successful candidate will be a talented individual with excellent qualitative and quantitative skills teamed with outstanding writing, communication, project management and organizational skills.


  • Assist the team in preparing recommendations to the Chief Investment Officer (CIO) including asset class, manager structure and implementation in each asset class portfolio, manager selection and including the development of investment strategy statements.
  • Manage the day-to-day communication with NIMCO’s Operation and Compliance teams, serving as the liaison for legal, operational and compliance matters affecting NIMCO’s investment managers and 3rd party service providers.
  • Able to understand and clearly articulate, both verbally and written, the current status of any issue or recommendation supporting the investment team.
  • Manage the day-to-day oversight and reporting of the public market asset classes.
  • Responsible for scheduling   and assembling materials for quarterly Investment Committee meetings; this responsibility will report into the Compliance Officer
  • Assist in drafting recommendations to the CIO regarding manager selection and/or termination.
  • Coordinate  manager search and selection process, as well as, manager transitions.
  • Support Senior Manager(s) in defining and negotiating investment management agreements (IMAs) and related schedules; manage the monitoring and updating for any subsequent changes.
  • Responsible for investment manager guideline compliance.
  • Support the oversight of external investment managers, which includes semi-annual due diligence visits, and other meetings as required, with each manager; prepare agenda, questionnaires and meeting notes.
  • Review, analyze and communicate effectively investment results including the attribution of absolute and benchmark relative investment returns.
  • Maintain and develop contacts with the industry in order to conduct appropriate searches and due diligence on investment decisions.
  • Work as part of a team to implement best operational and risk management practices.


  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in finance or related subject.
  • At least 5 years experience including at least 3 years in an investment, operational or compliance related field.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills is essential. 
  • Ability to multitask and complete tasks with deadlines.
  • Significant experience in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Pension experience and/or progress towards an advanced degree, CFA, or CAIA a plus
