Software Engineer Bell Labs World Wide Streams (position at Nokia Bell Labs - Antwerp)


The Real-Time Information Processing research team within Nokia Bell Labs is looking for a motivated new team member.
You will be part of a highly skilled research team of computer scientists and engineers that works closely with the Nokia business units on new long term technologies that have the potential to disrupt the company’s product roadmaps. 
The team created the World Wide Streams platform (see www.worldwidestreams.io) and continues to research beyond this. World Wide Streams is a large-scale, geographically distributed, stream processing platform that addresses emerging requirements for IoT stream processing: find, filter, transform, analyse, mash-up & deliver live streams. WWS unifies the processing of live data and video streams. It allows to mix & match live streams and process them by flexibly chaining pluggable analysis modules.


Main Job Role: We are looking for a passionate Software Engineer.  

As a WWS Software Engineer, you

  • Become a key WWS expert on the WWS architecture, external interfaces, and internals of the WWS platform.
  • Engage with WWS users (customers as well as Nokia Product Units) by
    • Defining & implementing integration architectures
    • Transfering knowledge and WWS assets, and provide technical expertise
  • Act as a WWS evangelist
    • Conduct WWS tutorials, train-the-trainer, 1-1 follow-up training 
    • Manage the worldwidestreams.io website:  community management, website content, blog entries, ..
  • Co-create use-cases on WWS with users
    • Onboarding of data & video analytics algorithms on WWS
    • Co-creating WWS analysis pipelines
  • Operate WWS instances & sandboxes
    • DevOps: manage WWS instances + maintain & develop deployment and test-automation tools
    • Develop and maintain additional WWS features and modules


Experience in one or more of the following fields is a plus

  • Hands-on coding experience in JavaScript, Python, NodeJS, … 
  • Scripting, UI development, application development, cloud/AWS
  • Previous exposure to build environments & test automation tools is a bonus.
  • Interest in stream processing, streaming analytics, query languages, data-flows




Position Requirements

  • You have a Bachelor or Master degree in Software Engineering.
  • You have demonstrable programming skills and you have experience with building software involving a combination of open source frameworks and libraries.
  • You have hands-on coding experience in JavaScript, Python, NodeJS, …
  • You are a quick learner and aim to become a WWS expert. You enjoy learning new technologies and SW frameworks.
  • You combine a personal drive with commitment to team objectives and you feel comfortable to work autonomously.
  • You can express yourself fluently in English, both verbally and in writing.
