Trainee - Study of sustainable objectives for fog orchestration
About Nokia
Nokia is committed to innovation and technology leadership across mobile, fixed and cloud networks. Your career here will have a positive impact on people’s lives and will help us build the capabilities needed for a more productive, sustainable, and inclusive world.
We challenge ourselves to create an inclusive way of working where we are open to new ideas, empowered to take risks and fearless to bring our authentic selves to work.
The research team you'll be part of is inside Nokia Bell Labs.
Nokia Bell Labs is the world-renowned research arm of Nokia, having invented many of the foundational technologies that underpin information and communications networks and all digital devices and systems. This research has produced nine Nobel Prizes, five Turing Awards and numerous other awards.
The internship will take place within the Enterprise Networks department (11 researchers) in Nokia Bell Labs France, located in Nokia Paris-Saclay premise in Massy which is 20 km south from Paris. This research department studies network and compute control and automation in far edge environments.
In particular, the project hosting this internship is investigating a fog computing solution allowing opportunistic discovery and usage of 3rd party resources for distributed application deployment, mediated by the access network providers of those resources.
What you will learn and contribute to during your internship
You will contribute to a research study on the introduction of sustainability (primarily energy efficiency) related objectives in fog computing orchestration, impacting function placement and networking decisions in highly dynamic and multi-tenant environments.
The work will include reviewing state of the art solutions and publications, modelling the research problem through the identification of necessary metrics along with their gathering mechanisms, and through the definition of orchestration objectives and scheduling strategies, and the prototyping of selected approaches on top of the available sandbox platform.
The intern will participate in this research study together with Nokia Bell Labs researchers in the context of an on-going research project (5 researchers involved and a sandbox platform running). The internship work may lead to the production of publication and patents, it may be followed-up with a CIFRE PhD thesis.
