Technical Writer
Job Description
Nokia Software (NSW) Technical Communication seeks an experienced Technical Writer with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience authoring and leading teams in a technical publication environment. As a technical writer, you will be accountable for the quality and timeliness of a complete documentation suite, creating documentation that is accurate, complete, and usable. Additionally, you must demonstrate consistent, high-level use of technical writing principles and techniques. This position requires strong software project management knowledge, team leadership experience, Agile Software Development experience, and an innovation mindset to enable continuous improvements.
Responsibilities
• Participate as Documentation prime in Program Management Team, Project Core Team, and scrum team meetings.
• Coordinate with Project Managers and writers on documentation impact assessments, scope project efforts, and measure team capacity.
• Weigh effort assessments against available capacity and balance work across allocated members.
• Devise project documentation plans, eliciting reviews and approvals from required stakeholders as needed.
• Create documentation, validate installations, deployments, APIs, and configurations on both back-end and front-end systems.
• Track defects, team progress, and reviews in systems such as JIRA, Confluence, and/or SharePoint.
• Report documentation status regularly to project leaders and documentation managers, escalating risks in advance when necessary.
• Communicate potential changes to release schedules and deadlines to writers.
• Counsel writers and build accountability and competence through constructive mentoring.
• Coordinate publishing activities for documentation deliverables.
• Other duties as assigned.
Skills
• Proficiently operate in UNIX/Linux, Windows, and VM environments.
• Experience with content creation, authoring tools, information design, and publishing systems such as:
o XML, XSLT (plus XPath, XQuery), CSS, XHTML/HTML5, XSL-FO, PDF
o Swagger and related technologies for documenting APIs
o Git, SVN
o Maven, Jenkins, Artifactory
o Eclipse InfoCenter
• Experience using documentation production/publishing tools such as:
o DocBook, DITA, DITA-OT, and DITA-OT plugin development
o XML schemas and transformation pipelines, validation, testing, and scripting
o Setting up and maintaining complex XML-based publishing environments
o Experience with XML repositories that have content reuse within a single product and between products
Assets
• Telecommunication and IP experience or knowledge.
• Working in Agile environment.
• Knowledge of Oxygen, WordPress, Captivate, InkScape, and other multimedia tools.
• Experience working with global teams.
